Safety Tips for Bus Commuters

Riding the bus is a daily reality for many us and because of this people should be aware of bus safety tips to keep them safe each day as they commute. The following bus safety tips will help you keep in mind some of the more important safety tips when riding the city bus.

Bus Safety Tip #1 Don’t Wait at the Curb
Always wait on the sidewalk or at a bus stop safely away from traffic and the curb. If you wait at the curb you increase your risk of being in an accident or hit by an oncoming vehicle. As a result, always wait on the sidewalk.

Bus Safety Tip #2 Don’t Stand Near Doors
When the bus is in motion make sure you are seated properly in a seat or if you are standing do not stand near a door. The reason for this is the bus could stop suddenly and you might fall through the doors being injured. So, stay away from the bus doors when the bus is in motion.

Bus Safety Tip #3 Enter at the Front
Most of the time city buses have front and back doors. However, you should always enter through the front doors so the bus driver knows you are there. If the bus driver does not see you enter he could accelerate before you are seated causing you to fall and injure yourself or other passengers. Avoid this by always entering at the front.

Bus Safety Tip #4 Stay Seated
Once you take a seat on the bus be sure to stay seated until the bus comes to a complete stop. Doing this will ensure you do not lose your balance because you are walking or moving when the bus is accelerating or braking.

Bus Safety Tip #5 Watch Where You Cross
Never, ever cross in front or behind a bus when in traffic because the bus will be unlikely to see you. If the bus driver can’t see you then you are in danger so always be sure to cross at crosswalks and not in front or behind a bus.
These bus tips are simple, yet will keep you safe and sound when you take the bus each day to work or around town.
